Amazing anime really, just a little expensive since its in HD. The article has a couple of LightWave screenshots on it. NT should really really translate this and put it on the LightWave site.

wow... that's amazing. i'd love to find out what the workflow they're using is in terms of character animation.

haha, great screenshot on one of the pages on how they "broke" the model in actuality to get the shot they wanted.

p.s. WHAT IN THE WORLD?!?! i just saw a clip of it... it doesn't look 3d AT ALL!!! that's some unbelievable work. geez... if newtek wants to show that lw is viable for charanim, they should really hype this!

there's also a u.s. site for the movie.... no making of interviews though!

dang, those guys are fing disciplined... they animate on twos, limit camera movement and such, just as if they were drawing it... this stuff is VERY hard to tell that it's 3d!

wow, i'd really love to see what their process is.

Ah, yeah, Freedom 5, i saw the DVD in almost every store in Tokyo.
I think there's a lot more anime and games made where LW was used then we know of.

and this is to newtek's extreme detriment.

frankly, there isn't a lot of lw character work in the west that i consider "marketing gold"....

but man, this japanese stuff i see every once in a while makes me think - HEY NOW, here's something that looks good!

how are they doing it?! find out! share!

yup, looks AMAZING...
NEWTEK get your Butt out of your comfy chair and talk to the studio to put the making of and behind the scenes info all over your home page!

excellent work

Man I need to brush up on my Japanese.

LW seems to be used a lot in Japan. Shame we never hear about it in the West. That's poor marketing :D

Freedom is amazing.

Like Jin said, it doesn't look like 3DCG for the character animation. Hell, I wanted to see it (Otomo fan) before I knew, and looking at it, I didn't know until I saw it move. And then, I STILL didn't KNOW it was 3D, or did I even suspect it was Lightwave3D.

This is the state of the art for animation. Not from a "wow, look at that character, we can look from every point on him and he looks perfect." kind of way, but from a "wow, look at that shot, it looks amazing". The fact of the animation, not in the fact of the characters.

Look into YAMATO-WORKS, they are the producers of FREEDOM, and have done KAKURENBO (Hide and Seek). Amazing stuff.

This is the kind of thing I want to do when I grow up.
