Mr Knievel has passed. Who remembers the wind-up motorcycle launcher toy? That was one of my favorites toys.

Yes i still have one of them in my toy box, these days..... Thanks for the nostalgic picture.... I had no idea it was from 73..... I am getting old these days...

Funnily enough my evil broke too, but never broke as many of his bones as the real one, Las Vegas been the most memorable...

I didn't have it, but I remember it.
Well, there goes another icon of my era. The man was a God in his day, and also probably single-handedly responsible for why I wasn't allowed to have a dirtbike...

Weird. Yes, I still have one. A friend and I were just emailing about that toy two days ago. Who's got a Scramble Van?

Turns out a promoter who we've done business with for years was key in getting the Grand Canyon Jump developed and executed. I think that was the largest viewing of any sporting event at that time.

I remember having to do a cartoon strip for a porn mag in the eighties which spoofed Evel Knievel jumping the Canyon for jumping Linda Lovelace instead, oh happy days, sorry to hear he's gone

They should fire his coffin over the Grand Canyon on RATO bottles, or tip it over Niagra Falls.

That would be cool.

Shoot it over fifty buses, g'waaan!

Actually it was the Snake River Canyon. I would try something like that if I had the money, of course I love rockets and high speed. The SkyCycle was steam powered, and it could have made it across if the chute hadn't deployed too early.

I did build a rocket powered streetluge, only got about a 20mph boost with several E model rocket engines.

I jumped a ditch once, 3 feet, almost broke my ankle, and dirtied my brand new white sneakers that my mum ended up PAINTING with that special sneaker paint for dirty sneakers that no one used except my mum. Aaarrggg!

The first ramp my friends and I made as kids was a cinderblock with a piece of plywood as the ramp. It snapped when the first kid went on it, his front wheel hit the block, he flipped and landed flat on his back on the sidewalk. Of course, we all ran away and left him there. He was fine, but we made a much more substantual ramp the second time.

Reading through all the replies shows how great that toy was. I had one and got in trouble often for letting it run into my mom's wood furniture all the time (My playroom was a bit confining...) ;)

I didn't have the van, just the motorcycle. I was only 2 when it came out it seems. But it was still around when I got mine at 7.

I just got a new re-make of that toy for father's day this year. Not quite as good as the original I had as a kid, but what is? Sorry he's gone :(

I have fond memories of the stunt cycle and also the chopper toy. I'm going to have to dig to see if I still have one or the other. He was always an inspiration for my friends and myself to jump popcans on our bicycles. The good old days...

That was my favourite toy ever and only my Bigtrak came close.

He was my hero for years.
