I was wondering if it were possible to accomplish the following using just Saslite:

I have a pretty simple texture. It just uses one procedural to make a striped surface with two different colors. I'm just wondering if it's possible (with just one surface) for Saslite to change the fur color based on the color of the surface below. I really don't want to have to make the striped pattern by splitting the object into two different striped surfaces.

I just need it to be mildly fuzzy. Another approach would also be welcome.

Unfortunately Saslite is an pixel filter based on the surface. Baring any other plugins or tricks I am unaware of, you have to stencil the surface with your pattern and apply another surface to get the stripes.

If it's just short fuzz you want maybe try this tutorial using displacement rather than saslite. It takes a bit a setting up but the results can be quite good and you should get better control over colour
