I have just started to learn Modeling with lightwave. I really dont know much about any of this. My question is if I export for mac what file type should I use and the same for PC. Also will it save the textures or UV maps in that file? I am on Mac OS X 10.2.6 and using Lightwave 7.0.:confused:

Lightwave objects are readable on Mac and PC versions of lightwave. There is no need to export, just save your object from modeler. The file format is .lwo

You can export .3ds files from lightwave for use in 3ds max or other programs if you need to.

Yes but if I export are the textures in that one file?

I believe that they are, but i have not done it myself. I have imported .3ds files into modeler and the textures were there, so i would think that the textures are maintained on export.

For a game what file format should I export to? In the .lwo it dose not save the textures. So if you move them than you have to locate them for lightwave!

There are 3 types of textures:
Procedural (fractal noises generated by the computer)
Gradients (a color that can blend from one color to another)
Image Maps (a flat image such as a TIFF or a Photoshop file is applied to your model)

Procedural textures and gradients are always saved in the Lighwave model (.lwo).

The image maps are just plain images, photos (or Quicktime movies). They are kept separately in their original image formats. The model keeps the information about how they will be positioned onto that model.
