Anyone done a static electricity effect on the surface of another object. Did one a long time ago, (Amiga days) it was a procedural on the outside of a transparent object surrounding the object in question. You would think there must be a better way with all the new tools, but I'm not thinking of one.

Help??

I have a vauge memory of a proton tutorial using two point poly chains and displacements to get an electricty effect- try a search on the tutorials it may still be around somewhere.

Yep that works great for creating the spark.
Create a point point poly chain
Apply a procedural displacement to the chain
animate the procedural.

Steve Warner has an excellent tutorial on how to achieve your old method.
