is there anyway that i can import 3ds files into lightwave 7?

does anyone know of any scripts or file translators i could use.

please help.

Open modeler
go to:
File>Load Object and change the Files of Type from object to all file

i did mean free.

when i do the all files thing on the load object thing it says something like cannot load file or unknown file type but i will try again.

Loding a 3DS file into LW modeler is absolutely no problem, as the man said, just select 'all files' at the bottom of the load object requester.
This pre-supposes that you have followed the instructions regarding adding all the plugins. (one of the input-output ones is required to translate the file)
Note that 3DS polys are all 3sided, so it's usefull to do some sort of poly reduction on them for LW use. And check poly alignment. And unify polys.
Note also that a MAX file is absolutely useless to anyone without a copy of max, it contains no objects, merely a record of the instructions to max to make the objects,
