Hiya. Just wondering... I'm looking to try and find some freelance work (probably in motion gfx more than character animation...) and wondered if there are any others out there using lightwave that i may be able to call on if i get too much work or are unable to finish the job for whatever reason (accident, sickness, death.. you know...) Yeh... so... anyone? anyone at all?

Yes there as a few Kiwi and Ozwavers around.
I know Kev and a few others visit the LWOZ Yahoo mailing list.

And also have the Kiwi Wavers mailing list.

I know NZ has a LW user group that meets every now and then.

Professional. Specialise in product vis work. My background is industrial design - at the moment my time is spread about 50/50 between vis work and design work.

I'm an American living here for 4 years (so far!) ... Just bought LW from the only distributor here, and he had to order it!

Something tells me I'm the only one in the SAR using LW ... especially on a Mac!

Kiwi mates, I'm headed down your way next week to do some photo work around Auckland. Will have about a week off between jobs to head down to the South Island.

This may sound odd, but especially given that I know no one here that uses LW and I've just started getting into it, I would love to meet up at a pub to hear you talk shop, maybe show me the kind of work you do (on a laptop?), and you can also suggest some sights for me to see. Don't worry, I'm not looking for a tour guide!

Oh, and I'll get the first round ...

I have a full time job here, Heaps more opportunities here than in NZ, for perment or freelance jobs, In fact we could be looking for a fulltime animator here soon.

Yeah, Oz is booming. Too bad I haven't been there yet!

Don't think I could ever live there with the taxes ... how do they compare to NZ taxes?

Anyway, only heading down to NZ to do some photography work ... a semi-paid vacation, I hope.

I'm a print art director/designer/artist/photographer on sabbatical ... been wanting to get into 3D design for years and just did! I figured it'll be a couple years before I can use much for work, but the last week has been amazing. Soaking it up like a sponge!

Cool. I'm flying in and out of there. You from there originally?

So do you use LW professionally?

I'll be cruising all over both Islands for almost three weeks. Been wanting to do this since I got to this side of the planet four years ago!

Hmm, no reply from Kev yet. Anyways, the only LW user group in NZ is in Auckland. Meetings are usually the third thursday of the month.

Well that would be cool, but I won't be back in Auckland until a day or two later ... on the 24th, I think.

But if a few guys want to meet up at a pub or cafe, I'd be happy to buy some beers and maybe you could help me with whatever simplistic thing I'm banging my head up against at the time (I'll have my laptop with me), and maybe you can show me the kind of work you all do (bring a drive or CD?).

I'm sorting out my plans right now, and it looks like I'll have free days in Auckland on the 7th and the 24th.

Would be really cool to meet up with some advanced users as I seem to be all alone here in HK. Anyone doing 3D here is probably using a pirated version of Maya ... (and probably doesn't speak very good English!)

Oh, suggestions for must-see sights on either Island would be appreciated. I've no Lonely Planet book for NZ yet, so am just researching online. Thank God for GoogleEarth!

Happy to meet up!
