I need help on how to create keyframes. Simple as that. I know where the buttons are and the concepts (positioning to slide things in, layer fading to get it to fade in/out etc.)

What I always end up with is text that slides in then slides back out or slides in then shifts down, etc.

I don't know the order to push the buttons in to get elements to do what I need them to do.

Berry,
One of the fundamentals of keyframing is to limit the number of keyframes:
- Position the text where you want to end, and keyframe it with ample time afterward
- Move it offscreen, and set that as a keyframe on Frame #1
- Be sure to take advantage of Ease In and Ease Out buttons at the top of the Control Tree pane

Sometimes I find it easier to keyframe from the end to the beginning.

I do to. I think that's what Paul meant as well.
