How does lightwave calculate bones?

I am trying to replicate bones in my application (without weight maps) using a lightwave object.

I thought that you find the distance from a point to the bone line segment ... but then what ... and where does the falloff type fit into all of this?

Unfortunately, the lightwave sdk does not help

heh, easy :)
new_distance = 1.0 / (pow(distance, falloff))

Makes sense, as the "Falloff Type" is "Inverse Distance ^ x"

I should stop looking too deep into a problem :)
