Okay, this is a bit of a story leading to the actual question but bear with me.
I work at this studio using Softmage, and we are currently doing a gig using cartoonish dinosaurs. While cleaning up the mesh I noticed that the director had the head separated from the rest of the mesh, so I asked him if he wanted it that way and he said yes because of the facial animation. According to him when you move the points the computer calculates the entire mesh not just what was moved so he keeps the heads separate so there are fewer points to calculate. Is this true and does Lightwave function the same way? I've done endomorphs before and never had an issue and admittedly I am not the best at Softimage or it's shapemanager so I don't really know. Anybody out there have an opinion on this cause I would like to know for myself.

Yeah, if your head is a separate mesh, on its own layer, it'll be calculated separately..
