I will soon be buying a new 8 core Intel Mac. I know the U/B version of Lightwave does not have a grass solution yet which is a big problem, but what else should I be aware of with this software, hardware combo? I don't want to spend all this money just to find I have created a nightmare for myself. Currently Lightwave 9.2 runs quite well on my G5 tower. How about the ATI-1900 video card versus the Nvidia options? Which card will give less problems overall?

Have a look at this thread: http://www.newtek.com/forums/showthread.php?t=74480

I use the 1900 and have had no problems with it. Can't comment of the Nvidia.

If you are a heavy photoshop user the upgrade to CS3 is recommended and if you use any other processor intensive apps using UB versions is probably a good idea.

I still use the CFM 9.3 where and when I need it, I even use bootcamp for those windows only plugs.

Check out the sticky at the top of this forum for current available UB plugins
