I was trying to figure out what to do for my college portfolio so I decided to try my hand at the Vlight world. This is what I came up with at 1 in the morning acouple days ago.....

800*600
http://www.firedragon.com/~lwg3d/GD/2003/06/25-583858_tn.jpg (http://www.firedragon.com/~lwg3d/GD/2003/06/25-583858.jpg)

This is the result :D it's 3 passes one the blur is set to 100% the second is at 50% and the third is at 25%. I then composited them in photoshop and added some color overlay layers in between the second and third layers. This gives it a nice firey look :D.
heres what it looks like without the color layers...

800*600

Now for people who like bigger desktops :D

1024*768

1600*1200(this isn't the biggest size either:d the one on my HD is 4444*3333 and 80megs in size)

what's vlight? I am just being dense, it proabably stands for something very simple!

I presume it's in lightwave

vlight is short for Volumetric Light. You can find it in the light panel.

Zippy,

This is a really cool render! I haven't explored lighting very heavily yet, but I am curious how you went about creating this. Did you use procedural texures in some way?

I did indeed. In the Volumetric panel you can specify what kind of textures you want to use, how dense it is. In fact it's quite similar to Hypervoxles cuz you can use Viper to see what the basic thing will look like.

 while I understand that they are relavent and look good, could you please show them off in a different thread? I know you mean well and all but someone elses thread really isn't a place to show off your own work. I'm not a big fan of people doing this(no offence intended it's a pet peave :)).

Having been a mod over at LWG I generally (and others too)have liked to keep each persons stuff in seperate threads so the origional poster doesn't lose Crits and Comments to someone elses stuff in the same thread. But if one wanted to post something interesting links work well.

So as nice as the images are I respectfully ask you to move them into a different thread.

Thanks,

Nick

Glad to hear that, it's a good idea. Maybe even try to animate that for a background. That would be cool.

Zippy they rock, abstract stuff is cool!

Each pass took about 10 mins to render on a P3 550 with 512 RAM. Then about another 10 mins to composite them in photoshop.
