Hi all. I need to get an architectural design done in AutoCAD 2006 into LW. :lwicon: How would it be the best way to go from AutoCAD 2006 to LW93? Is DXF the only way? What about tex and layers? Best regards, agpo :D

DXF is the best way, try to strip everything you don't need first like text and hatching.

What is in the file? 2D or 3D info (alot of architects that use MAX etc. model in autocad) ...

If it is all 2D, Illustrator can be a handy in-between, any closed, filled object will come in as a piece of closed geometry...

If there is 3d info, then indeed dxf or 3DS is the best option. For Autocad 2006/07/08, the 3dsout command was removed, but can be downloaded from the autodesk website and installed seperately ...

With some files (DXF or 3DS) I find converting the file in Accutrans or similar program to lwo(2) sometimes works better than a direct open.

I usually get great results opening an R14 DXF file with LWCAD's DXF import function. Preserves layers and pen colours perfectly.

You can also use Google Sketchup Pro (http://www.sketchup.com/) to open and export a DXF as 3DS which LW can open.

When using Accutrans export ver 12 dxf files from Autocad. also on the dxf options pick the select objects only option. I have used Accutrans since 1994 for all my autocad to Imagine and the last 3 years to lw conversions.
Autocad solids can be exported as 3DS files and then converted to LW with accutrans. I usually just 3dsout and then 3dsin my solids in Autocad before I DXF out a ver 12 dxf file from autocad to accutrans.

Check out my website for projects that have all been converted with accutrans. MY site hasn't been updated in about a year and a half but you will get the idea.

Any other questions on conversions contact me at the address at my site.
