View Full Version : Radiosity Cache File (Farmable Radiosity)

I think this one has probably been mentioned before, but, I might as well make the request again.

Radiosity is, for most production houses, completely unfarmable due to it's extremely high render times and cached is, of course, 100% useless on a farm.

Now, at the company I work for, Paradigm Productions, we do a lot of architectural rendering, so everything is static in the scene.

My proposal is to be able to write out a file using the cache data so a farm could load it at render time. So you would do one local, still frame, render that would write out a cached radiosity file that would be loaded per farm node. Heck, just dump the whole cache data chunk into a file so it can be read right back in on the farm... or a single computer just in case the render craps out mid sequence. I guess an equivalent to what I'm talking about would be like writing out a .pfx file or a .mdd for motion... only we're talking about light. We could even have a "Calculate" button in the render globals. :D
