View Full Version : Screws

Seems to me, there should be an easy way to make screws (items with spiral threads), and maybe there is. But I don't know it.

I have faked some with helix, but it's not impressive.

We have nice gear, wedge, toroid, etc options, but no screws. Is there a good way of doing them?

Have you tried lathe tool for creating the thread? It might require some extra work to create an actual screw (head, tapered end, etc)

also, the quickbolt plugin. Latest version is not free. Older mac version is free:

That looks like a cool plugin, and faster then building by hand. Time is money.

I am still surprised we have no such feature in LW.

I beleive Twist and Taper may be your friends for this one, just off the top o'my head.

There was a tutorial in one of the HDRI magazine issues, maybe two months ago. Based on LW Modeler, mainly using lathe and taper tools (and others, such as bevel, for main shape).

Nah, the helix.ls will do the job nicely. It makes equally good springs and it's not hard to figure.

ie. a screw thread is just a top tapered version, after you've generated the helix, spline it.

-People forget that this technology was designed originally to make exaclty these type of shapes!!!
