View Full Version : Transparency issue

I have a glass sphere floating in a star field. When ray trace transparency is turned on, you can't see the stars through the sphere. When ray trace transparency is turned off, the stars show through the glass. What's up with that? I also noticed that if you want a correct alpha channel image, you have to turn ray trace transparency off. This has been an issue for a long time. What is the logic behind this?

I take it your stars are single point polys.

Yes, they are single point polys. That seems to be the problem. If I make a sphere and put a star map on the inside, it works.

What camera are you using?

classic camera.

I'm having trouble reproducing this. With RT transparency on and off I'm seeing my 1point polys through my object.

Any chance the refraction is too high and the light is bending them out of view?

Refraction is set to 1.0. I had a co-worker try it on his copy of LW and he has the same issues.
