Can the plug-in for PPC be used by installing it with PPCMac+MacLW9.3UB?

Negative on both questions.

All UB plugin's must be complied in X-code.

If the developer doesn't correspond, various plug-ins are things that it is
not possible to use it.

Thank you Mr.Haven1000

yes, unfortunately, all plugins need to be recompiled for the UB version!
it would be great to see yours too ready for OSX UB one day! ;)

oh? all you need is a mac with OSX 1.4 'tiger'. the xcode developer tools which can compile UB versions are delivered with OSX.

but i'm not a programmer, so i don't know how much trouble it is to port PPC CFM code to UB. maybe someone could help you?

Using another compiler became impossible when playing with xcode the other day.
I cannot develop with osx since then.
It doesn't know the method of development with xcode.

Thank you Mr.3dworks

Have you tried contacting DStorm? They might be able to help you.

Also, if you want to send me some source code ([email protected]) I can compile it for you and send you the XCode project back with instructions.

Cheers,
Mike

I know that there are Many Many people who would love to see your plugins be compiled for Mac UB. Maybe there are some other people that can help with the process (like Lightwolf/Mike is offering).

Your plugins have helped the LW community so much it would be so sad not to see them available for the UB version.

Here's hoping that some other people can help the process as well!! :)

Chilton, it would be great if there was an example Xcode project so people who want to port a plugin could use the sample project...just an idea :beta: :beta:

The SDK contains plenty of samples... and setting it up yourself takes about 5-10 minutes if you follow the instructions. Probably less time once you've done it a few times.

Did I taste like spam or chicken :thumbsup:

Actually, I'm one of those people who likes to start at the end first and work my way backwards. eg open an existing Xcode project, compile, load the plugin into LW and test to see if it works...be amazed that it actually works.

Then try to work out how and why it works and go from there :D

The Sample folder in the SDK contains a cleverly hidden file named 'samples.xcodeproj'. If you look closely, you'll notice that it is an XCode project. You can tell that because the icon looks like an XCode project. If you double-click that file, it will open XCode, and display a master project that has links to all of the sample plug-ins. You'll find that almost every sample plug-in has an XCode project associated with it.

XCode, XCode and XCode the XCode for more XCode. XCode?

Maybe you should post that in the hidden secrets of the UB thread ... you've just tried to be too clever again, haven't you? ;)

It's worth noting that a number of developers are not aware that LW has a UB version, or what they need to do to port from Win32 or from CodeWarrior to XCode. Those that have tried become very frustrated with the pickiness of GCC, and the poor documentation in XCode.

I'm being incredibly cheeky and pointing them at Mike (for which he will probably curse me until the end of time :D ), but it would really be nice to have a prominent chunk of UB porting+coding information on the developers page.

Perhaps even a UB-specific developer forum here to help with the transition?

Those that have tried become very frustrated with the pickiness of GCC, and the poor documentation in XCode.

The pickiness of GCC is fine, and you have to tweak it to get rid of some of the errors that the old C style SDK generates using new C style compilers.
Maybe the SDK samples should be adapted to match. The main culprit is that older C allows you to declare a function as:

myfunction (void *inst);
Where inst is a pointer to anything in memory, while you can implement it as:

myfunction (my_Data *inst) { some code...}
where you basically decalre the parameter as a pointer to your structure of type my_Data.
To satisfy a picky compiler ist should be:

myfunction (void *inst)
{
myInst = (my_Data *)inst;
}

Basically a manual cast (change of type) of the opaque inst parameter to the actual data you use.
In my experience this causes the most warnings.
Other than that and a few more minor niggles that I PM'ed Chilton about (which would make the SDK a tiny bit simpler to use by removing two steps of the process) I find it to be fairly easy.
True, reading up on XCode will take a few hours and getting used the more drag and drop style approach setting up parts of the project takes some getting used to as well. (i.e. you can d'n'd directories for XCode to search for headers into the GUI ... but you can't use a file selector to add them).

Cheers,
Mike

It is assumed that UB was compiled by using SDK8.5.
Can this plug-in be used with PPCMac+LW8.5?

Hi gatz ,
license ?
The configuration file of the plug-in is the same file name.
Is it a different thing?
These four plug-ins are free.

By the way, is the plug-in of 9.3UB permitted to have been opened to the public here?

Pictrix,

Were you going to update the Sp_Polygon plugin to a Universal Binary version? I have been looking to try this plugin but there is not a UB version of it yet. Thanks for any information!!!
