Is the Mac OSX LW 9.3 UB in downloads available as a final version?
ie:non-beta

I am currently using 9.0 so do I have to have installed 9.2 before installing this version? and what are the advantages of running this version on an Intel Mac?

Hi,

Yes, it's the final version.

You don't need 9.2 installed to use it.

You will see a considerable speed increase on Intel hardware.

Yes!

No!

It will run much faster. LW9.2 and earlier PPC version of Lightwave have to run using Rosetta (Apple's PPC emulation) this means it will run slower. half as fast or less than running natively on the Intel processor. There are a few refinements on the UB version too but speed is the main point!

Edit: Gah! Beaten to the draw again!

It should be noted that we didn't stop with just a PPC update. The 9.3 UB is faster at most tasks than the 9.3 CFM version.

Do we run this version with the beta license number or can we punch in our regular license?

whenever I download the new UB it fails to mount. am I the only person having problems with this?

No, the files are just named wrong. Add a .zip extension to the file name and double-click that.

congrats for the release of UB!

btw. can you put this on versiontracker? it's still a place where lots of people are looking for new or updated mac software being released.

eh, ya I'm using my beta key and i'm still getting expiration msg. I guess it may take the original non beta key, haven't tried it yet.

So when I go to download it, it still reads at 9.2 Beta.

This works: copy the license.key file from your old LW install, and move it to the folder

~/Library/Preferences/LightWave3D/

Thats the Library folder in your home folder, not the one at the root of the hard drive.

I don't know Newtek would put up the new release and not add a note to explain this.

My turn for a question: anyone having trouble loading plugins in the UB version? When I try to Add Plugins, it doesn't recognise the plugin files

You can only add UB versions of plugins (or Lscripts), not the older PPC versions...

I was hoping that wasn't the reason... ho hum, I guess I'll need two installs for a while
