View Full Version : mapping lights to surfaces

I would like to be able to map a light to an objects surfaces so that it radiates light rays (a cube or sphere or instance), and render the same way a volumetric light would render have its rays rendered.

Does anyone know how to do this?

Thanks for your help.

Consider the old way. Parent a cone to the object, make it whatever color you choose. Ramp up the luminosity, and tick Edge Transparency in the shaders tab. That is how we did it in LW back in the day before vol. lights. Renders quite fast as well.

another old trick is luxigons. you select polygons in modeler and make them luxigons, attaching light options to them.

when you get to layout, converting luxigons to lights will put lights at the location of each luxigon polygon. then add volumetrics to each new light if you want it.
