Hi all

Who knows which is better?
I work in Mac
Te past weekend I did some renders in a Pc Pentium4 with 2 Gb of ram, and My MAC PPC G5 dual 2Ghz with 5.5 Gb of ram; 32 bit Pc; 32 bits Mac.

In some renders the Mac is faster than Pc, but in others the Pc is faster than Mac. Using the same scene simultaneously

How could be the Pc faster then the Mac?

Anybody have the answer.

Thanks

He whomsoever be foolish enough to post next will surely reap the whirlwind.... amen!!

A whirlwind? I'll play in that!

Some aspects of the rendering system in the Mac version was not as efficient as it could have been. That's remedied in a big way, in the UB version.

That said, if you have specifics on what was faster on the PC, I'd like to know what they are

Each has pros and cons: LW on PC has access to more plug-ins, although with the UB version of LightWave, hopefully, this situation will slowly change. There are also a few (though not many) PC-only apps in the 3D market, which might be useful.

Macs OSX is very stable (well, it is for me), and I personally prefer the way the OS works: the Finder, the folder structure, everything. Using LW with apps like Photoshop and After Effects is nice on a Mac - though I presume not much different from a PC.

If the OS isn't an issue, and you just want to run LW, then I guess an affordable PC is a strong option. But, as stated before, the new MacIntel machines will happily run Windows - so you're covered either way.

It's Mormon, the answer is Mormon!

Don't you watch Southpark or something?

I answer PC only because of the plugin situation. Though I don't find XP/2K too bad, they're stable and functional for once! Vista is a lot better since I turned UAC off, but the DRM stuff is putting me off it :)

By the past (about 4 years) I run LW on a Mac, because of the immediat availability of most of the usefull plugins, I run LW ONLY on PC right now...

Can someone tell me where in the LightWave manual it tells you about the facts of life?

Its almost the wrong question, isn't it?

It shouldn't be "What's the right computer PC or Mac?" but "Which is the better OS, Windows Vista or OS X Tiger?"

I think anyone on the planet would not say that Vista is better than OS X... 'cept to start an argument...

It's such a personal question in recent times (with Intel macs). PCs tend to run the gamut more in price... you can get a really cheap one that will be less expensive than a Mac or you can go to some high end makers and get one that will be more expensive than an 8-core Mac Pro... If you care to run the Mac OS at all, then the Mac is a great choice. I have a Windows partition on my MacBook Pro and it runs better than any PC I have ever used (granted I have not used a PC much in a couple of years). If you really don't care about Mac OS... the choice is simple. My next purchase will likely be Mac Pro ($$$ permitting).

OK, I had my 2
