It's called "Father and Daughter". Made by Michael Dudok de Wit. It's about a little girl who goes out on a trip with her father. The father however jumps into a boat and leaves her behind. As the girl gets older, every time she passes by the spot she looks out for her father.

I've seen it years ago and it's one of the few movies that ever brought tears into my eyes. I just found a downloadable good quality version and wanted to share it.

Here is a bad quality version on Youtube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2VFJml7gD5k). But I really REALLY recommend downloading the High Quality version here (http://rapidshare.de/files/16729881/Father_and_Daughter.avi.html) (73 MB). Not only because of all the details you'll miss otherwise, but also because of the beautiful music and ambient sounds.

Enjoy.

wow serge. that was really good. funny how something that only lasts 7+ minutes and has no dialog can still speak volumes more than full featured films. it's all in the delivery. thanks for the link. and i grabbed the download also.

serge,
I shed a tear the first time I saw that film a number of years ago. Michael Dudok de Wit also did "The Monk and the Fish". The chap is an awesome artist.

If you love this style I suggest watching the National Film Board of Canada's collection of animators such as Carlone Leaf and Frederic Bach to mention a few. Unfortunatley when it comes to independent animators its harder to acquire their work.

You highlight the fact that great animators convey story without dialogue. :)

It really is fantastic. I've seen it about 5 years ago at a festival.

Short film can be really mindblowing. I've got dozens of dvd's with them. One of the funniest and best is 'El secleta del tlompeta'. It's on a fantastic collection called Cinema 16, the European collection. Check it out if you like short film. The other 2 collections are also awesome.

Very nice,

Here's another, not animated but a very strong idea and got me a bit leaky eyed:
