That's the best CG short I've seen in a long time. 100% original.

Matt

It's like 35mm, but not a violent or twisted! :D

458 nm is the wave-lengh of the blue color.
It seems that it is a very important color for sneals because it means food or sex partenair maybe ... (according by the autors of this short)

Sorry for my veryyyy bad english guys !

icredible ,YES it is. i agree.
but this scene doesnt have variations.
almost same camera work, same objects whole frome the start to end.
i felt boring after 30secs from the start.

focus-in,
object move the same motion,
focus-out,
focus-in,
.
.
.

and lighting is same at all.

at least ,for me,cant say its the best movie ever seen,

i understand your point of vue.

But for me it is the mood, the capture of a certain atmosphere that make it great. And for this particular exemple all those focus in-out and camera work are quiet hypnotic. I like also the simple idea of it, simple story like a documentory, no words, one action, one time, one drama, just mouvement, music, light, form, life. (the short is inspirated by the french film Microcosmos that i have not seen but seems to be great).
And at the end it is pure contemplation and it is pure poetry, i like those brief moment suspended in time with this elevation of thoses creatures near the orgasm, near to god ... i don't know ... and the end is so shoking brutal !

I find this so beautyfull and so well done.
You completely forget that this is cg, it seems so real.

I don't know, it work from the beginning to the ultimate dramatic end.

Beautiful. Fantastic work.
Hmmh, I have a sudden urge to render some high contrast stuff with extreme DOF... :)

Wow! Awesome use of subsurface stuff...

I'm amazed that no one else had applauded the absolutely superb use of music, and the way it ties in so perfectly with the action.

If I have a criticism, it's that the depth of field is a bit heavy handed in parts, but it's still a stunning piece of work.

That's why I asked if it was done in LW ... ;)

You're right, the music was awesome, enhanced the visuals perfectly.

Love to see a LightWave marketing trailer done with the same and mood and slickness, that would be awesome!

Wow - thats amazing, incredible graphics - lighting - okay music. The mood was captured perfectly and amazingly - but it seemed a little to long without enough movement... anyways sad ending, lol.

I was thinking because of all the electronics at the beggining that it was gonna be something like manufacturing facility for something deadly and thats how far off it was - and it was gonna be fatal. Would have been cool, lol. Then the snails came in the scene and ruined my idea. LOL

I was really disappointed because I thought it was going to be two slugs, but then the camera pulled back and they were snails. Damn!!! :D

Very nice, but the pacing was too slow even for a snail movie. Good thing for me that Quicktime allows for me to fast forward. Seriously, the mood was cool but it was just too long in some parts. Loved the ending; it almost made up for the other parts that didn't work. The snail sex was cool too, but it just went on and on and on... must have been on the blue pill.

That was pretty stunning. Not sure how I feel about the ending but it wasn't expected so I have to give it credit.

I was impressed with the surfacing and use of DOF. Kind of sick how that ended. ;)

Very awesome in every aspect. I agree though I got bored after the first minute. It was just more of the same. It would have been perfect if it was about half as long.

visuals...great
pace..drawn out..
music...okay
text..nice

overall..pretty good but not best in my opinion...

best shorts i've seen ever are

'bingo' http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tikpXhko0sk [maya]
'nik knack' [original not the ''disney'' re edit.]
luna by anibyte [max 2]
http://users.telenet.be/UglyMike/Movies1/Thumbs/Anibyte1.png

lots of robots http://www.lotsofrobots.com/ [3dsmax]

pump action [cinema4d]

i'm probably showing my 'age' as most of the shorts i've listed don't appear on the net anymore!
which is a shame esp the anibyte short...made on dual pentium pro 180mhz machines with 128mbram
running max 2.0 and character studio....

I hadn't seen Bingo before. Brilliantly dark and menacing. Goes straight in as one of my faves. Thanks for the link

yeah bingo is a defining short...was made with maya 1.0....youtube version is not as good as the dvd/video as youtube's compression drops the image quality down too much..

that, pump action and luna are all what i expect from a short film

also mantis

hehe brilliant. It's actually similar to something I was thinking of tackling next to try and learn some compositional skills. Nothing like as good as that but one of my models moving around on filmed footage of my actual desktop, so that clip really hit the spot :D
