I may end up working on a job, that will get brought into Maya by someone else later on.

Can anyone tell me if this works at all, and if so where the weaknesses lie? Seems like procedural textures, and deformations, and particle animation and stuff like that might not make it over there.

But can you atleast send objects with image maps and animation to Maya?

Yes you can. OBJ export maintains UVs, and you can reapply the textures in Maya. Do some searching here, as there are lots of threads on the topic.
