View Full Version : Question about 9.2 upgrade

07-07-2007, 10:48 PM
Hi! I just recently upgraded to verison 9 and I'd like to upgrade to 9.2. I was just wondering the easiest way to do this without having to reinstall all my plugins and copy over all my own files (scenes, objects, etc)

Do I just install 9.2 into my 9.0 directory or will it wipe out all of my files? Sorry if this is a dumb question, but I spent hours last time doing file compares and installs :o

Thanks for all your help!

9.2 is a new self-install, not an upgrade from that manner. You will have to reinstall your plugins but it's worth it.

It will install itself into a new directory so both LightWave 9.0 and 9.2 will work. It wont erase over anything in the 9.0 directory but I think you have to start from scratch on the 9.2 side of things.

As Animapper said however it is definitely worth it, have not looked back.

Hope this helps.

be carfull with the config files !

for trouble free operation you should redirect config files

Creating Custom Config Files:
For Windows XP and Windows® XP Professional x64 Edition

1) Locate the folder where you copied the LightWave v9.2 software.
2) Open the Programs Folder
3) Create a new folder named “Configs”.
4) Open the Configs folder and copy the path.
5) Go up one level, back to the Programs folder
6) Find the Lightwav.exe file.
7) Right-click and choose Create Shortcut
8) Right-click on the new shortcut and choose Properties
9) For Target, go to the end of the path and type –c
10) Paste the Configs path to the end of –c. If you have any spaces in the Config path, put the path in quotation marks. The path should look something like this (your exact path may be different):

C:\Downloads\LightWave_v9.2\Programs\lightwav.exe –c”C:\Downloads\LightWave v9.2\Programs\Configs”

11) Repeat steps 6-10 for Modeler.exe
12) Use the shortcuts you created each time you open the software.

For Macintosh

1) Locate the folder where you copied the LightWave v9.2 software.
2) Open the Programs Folder
3) Create a new folder named Configs
4) Find the Lightwave cmdline, hold control and click
5) In the cmdline type –c
6) After the –c type the exact path of where you created the Configs folder
7) It should look something like this:

-c"Macintosh HD:Applications:NewTek:LightWave 3D 9:Programs:configs”

8) Repeat this for the Modeler cmdline

If I only plan on running 9.2, do I still have to do the redirect of the config files?

no, but you'll have to delete the old ones
