Just thought I'd ask here since I'm not having much luck at the Macromedia forums. I want to build a FLV Player Component like the one at the LA Times http://www.latimes.com and pictured below. The playlist with thumbnails I can get, but what I can't figure out is how to add the drop-down menu that shows up when you click on 'More Video'. That lets you choose from a list of categories and then loads a different set of videos into the playlist. Any pointers to either a tutorial or a player appreciated.

Easiest way is to use the built in Flash components (e.g., ComboBox). Look under "User Interface" in the Components box (Window->Components) in Flash.

Thanks,

I'm away from my workstation but I'm assuming there's a way to use XML to do this? It's pointing to different .XML files for each set of playlists, or is there a way to keep all of it within one .XML file?

With ComboBox, you don't need to mess with XML: just enter the labels/values for the component (directly or through inspector), and at run time get the value of the choice and act (in your case play the selected video). E.g., the below script will print the value.

var listener:Object = new Object();
listener.change = function() {
trace(box.value);
}
box.addEventListener("change", listener);
