I am digging into LW plug-in work and need to get a couple of opinions:

I have MS Visual Studio 2005, but I want an opinion for what may be the chioce platform/compiler from someone who's been doing this a while? I've got plenty of experience with C/C++, although I've not spent a lot of time with MS Developer in the last 2 years, I'm not sure I want to use this for this work.

I used Borland about 10 years ago and wondered if it is the better choice?

What is the best choice (r.e. simplest package to get the job done), since pluging evelopment does not require all the GUI elements, etc. that MSVS keeps up with?

Thanks

Dev-C++ is quite a simple but powerful package. I use it over MS for it's simplicity.

From my experience free Microsoft Visual Studio Express 2005 can generate 15-20 times faster executable than Borland C++ v5.5 on modern CPU even though no SSE1/2/3 is used (they almost no speed up my programs that I tested)..

I find MSVSC++ 2005 much more intuitive then anything else I have used.:lwicon:
