Nice, but I don't see any content...e.g., Lightwave, Renderings, Other Stuff. Not sure why Other Stuff is in different color. Also, why do you have the coords showing up at the bottom? I first thought it's for showing download status or something.

The looping sequences you have in the background are much too frequent in my opinion.

The Lightwave 3d text in the top right looks a little out of context.

Too many fancy flashy things will distract from any content within your site. It's good to be able to impress visitors, but you don't want to overwhelm them.

The overall look is good and you have some nice added features.

Not so much a crit on the graphics, but on the use of the font on "Lightwave 3d" at the top - Comic Sans.
A tip to you, and anyone reading this, never, ever, under any circumstance, use Comic Sans anywhere. Ever. Same goes for the font Jokerman.
They're the most hated fonts in the graphic design world - at least, they are here.
Also, unless there's a reason for it, try to keep just one font across the entire page .. the entire site if possible.

I'd like to see the site when it's finished .. one minor thing, the text on the buttons to the right starts to disappear because the button highlight is a bit bright. Makes them harder to read. That's the first thing I see when I look at it...

Pretty good for a first flash site. Some workflow and design ethics though.

It's very hard to do and break out of but try not to get carried away with all the fancy things that flash can offer. This is specially hard to do when designing a site in flash for the first time, and much-much harder if coming from a 3D artist much like yourself.

My flash site www.bmadigital.com (which is 2 years old) shows how bad I was. I did too many animated transitions, scaling, moving, fading, etc. When I take a step back and look at it now, it looks tacky and bad. I'm redesigning it now, but I'm doing it more carefully.

Sometimes being simple and less busy is better than...busy and...flashy.

Anyway,

your layout is nice,

the white letters over the white/grey gradient seems to blend a little bit.

Try to align your "NEWS" and "MENU" titles with the buttons and panel.

Expand your "NEWS" sidebar up a bit to align with the content box cause that's a waisted space above it, unless your planning to put something on there.

Restrain yourself from making everything move, it's hard to focus on some stuff you might want us to focus on.

loose the word "sound" because the speaker icon is pretty universal, so center that in the icon instead.

Use consistent typefaces/fonts. the less typefaces you use the more consistent your site becomes.

that bar at the top that "Lightwave 3D" is on is taking up space. you can reduce that to maybe aligned with your sidebar menu at the right and expand your content box up. orr add tabs on that when you have multiple pages inside your "Lightwave", Renderings", "Otherstuff", etc. pages.

overall, it's very good for a first run at flash. :)

If you're using Flash 8 Pro, look for the Presentation template.

Wow, thank you man :).

Mine is very simple realy. I use two movieclips in wich I load the desired clip. These two movieclips alternate with the loading and I swich the levels of the two every time. Besides that its just some fooling around with masking.

Hello,

you might find this site useful

http://www.kirupa.com/

Some other things

Did I miss the "home" page button?

Why is the gallery a totally different look from the rest of the site?

Not seeing a swanky image when you get to the site makes it seem a bit dull,

you can use a bit of actionscript to randomly load a different image each time you come to the front/home page perhaps!

hope this is constructive

Paul

Hi Zapper,

Swanky translates to a still of your work that you like and that represents what you do and shows off your skills as a designer/ artist/ animator etc.
If you like I can dig out a bit of flash that will let you have a sequence of stills load randomly each time a page is viewed. The Kirupa site has a wealth of tuts that should have something like what you need for your gallery.
For sheer fun and flash amazingness check this out http://www.levitated.net/daily/index.html
Oh I almost forgot this http://www.senocular.com/flash/source.php more tuts to have a look at!

I've taken the libery of sticking a picture in your web page example to show how a bit of an image livens things up. Oh and I've put in the front page of my web site that I am taking far too long to build just to show an alternative way of popping in images or even a gallery.

(Oh and I'm new to Flash just about every time I open it up, I think I forget everything about it when I've finished banging my head on the desk!)

hope this is of help

interesting read!

i'm actually re making my website currently too!
www.cresshead.com

i've gone for a simple design style, using flash and html
for me your site is a little busy and i took the route of
having my images load into a 800x324 area with the nav
below as basic html rollovers...thatway my graphics area don't feel
constrained so much inside a flash box with nav buttons etc...

as always it's only my opinion!

email needs to be a button not a form...people HATE forms!
...well I do anyways!

looking good on the whole..a really good for your first site.

Hi again,

the font is called Neuropolitical and is by Ray Larabie. You should be able to get it as a free True type font at Myfonts.com. Or google Ray Larabie.

what about an alternative for those 2% people that cannot view flash? I have often wonder about taking the full flash route, but the above has me concerned.

Stooch

as far as im concerned they can take a hike. I dont care about the 2% really. im targeting a demographic with my site and I dont see any point with doing business with anyone who cant run flash for whatever reason. if they hate flash and just choose not to run it then thats even a better reason to lock them out of my site :)

I use 100% Flash myself, but put in alternative text content - not so much to please the non-Flash crowd, but to reach search engines (Googlebot, etc.). This approach (having Flash, with alternative text content for SEO) is being touted as the best route to take at this time, and I'd have to agree.

zapper1998

alternative text content..

Is in the works...Just trying to get the web site overhauled alittle

Thanks guys for the C&C
