Hello all.
I have been working on submissions for this short film project, and thought to pass along my latest success in this area. I have just been awarded co-winner status as a "Texture Artist" on the Short Project (www.shortproject.com (http://www.shortproject.com)), a collaborative, semi-OpenSource short film project. By the time I heard about it, the design and modeling of the characters and sets was already awarded, so I jumped into the texture development. It is to be Lightwave (sponsor) animated and rendered, with a key tool being Maestro (sponsor)(Eric Smith http://www.stillwaterpictures.com)
Since I am guessing that most of you haven't heard of the Short Project, they have shifted now to the Lighting and Animation phase, looking for more participants, so shake yourself and get on over. The story boards are done, characters and sets complete and texturing, but they need animators, screen credit and prizes are part of the deal. I have included a series of images below that I did to demonstrate the texturing efforts that helped me to be selected. The posters at the end are a separate aspect of the challenge, which is still ongoing, so you 2D people jump in.

Characters look great! Will you be using sss? (I'm not a technophile, sss just adds so much to living characters)
The subway isn't quite up to the characters' level though, are you still working on it?

This is something I'd love to work on, esp. since all the boring stuff has been done! :D (I get bored when I'm not lighting/rendering) I've just registered. How fast are they moving through the stages?

Congratulations, and good job on the characters. Just one thing would help the look of the inside the car, and in the subway...it needs a little "Dirt" and wear added so that the entire scene doesn't look too clean and uniform.
Nice touch with the graffiti on the walls. Adding in a subtle "grime" layer in photoshop, would help finish it off perhaps.

The characters look good, but I'm not keen on the underground station, or train. The graffiti looks wrong - the station itself, from floor to ceiling doesn't look run-down enough to tolerate graffiti for any length of time; on the side of the train, the brick texture looks very strange.

What really stands out is the lack of damage. The outside of that train should be mucky and the windows need scuffing up with abrasion marks and the usual kind of grime in the corners. The front of the train appears to be untextured, so I'm assuming that this is W.I.P.

Something about the bottom of the pillars in the station is also....wrong - the base sitting directly on the tiles just caught my eye. You need a transition area to account for the difficulty of continuing floor tiling around structures like that. If the station is semi-neglected, the floor needs some cracked tiles and general wear and tear. Some litter would not go amiss either - especially since there seem to be no bins :D

Oh, and the wooden seats need some level of specularity, as well as the floor in the station...but not so uniform (maybe a cloud filter in Photoshop, with some noise then blurr the whole specualrity map...reduced to about 50% opacity).
I realize that you've put alot of work into this, but the environment needs as much 'loving' as the characters do. :D
