View Full Version : move layout pivot poing

I'm trying to do a very simple animation of a camera orbiting around a parent object. I spend many hours trying to get this to work. I figure it's a matter of simply moving the cameras pivot point to the center null object which I positioned to the object I want to orbit around. The pivot refuses to move, even after I reset the cameras rotation and position. I also tried locking the y and z axis and just moving the camera on the x axis using the 'parent' coordinated system. That works except the camera keeps getting farther and farther away as I rotate several times around the parent. Like I said, the y and z axis are locked but they still move in the numerical panel.

This is embarrasing due to the extreme simplicity of what I want to do. Help!!

Place the camera where you want it facing the object, then spin the object. Or, if the object is in a room, spin the whole lot. I usually just manually move the camera and set keyframes.

Parent the camera to a Null object and then move it away from the null. Parent the null to anything you like. Rotate the null after that.
