Just curious - which version (not counting points) was your first Lightwave version?

I pre-ordered LW 6 and was sent 5.6 to use until 6 came out. So I voted 5 tho 6 had been announced by the time i purchased. (~$2000 USD bundled with Aura)

I started with 3.0 on an Amiga 4000, with the Video Toaster as an expensive dongle. I still have my Revolution demo video from that time, fun to watch and remember how things used to be.

Version 5 on the Mac, which I have to say was awful, slow OGL and buggy as hell!

8.3 with free upgrade throughout 9.x ;)

EDIT: I almost feel guilty about it... it IS a steal.... really! Esp when looking at what LW9.2 provided.... AMAZING deal... really! (yes.. I'm somewhat chocked actually).... :I_Love_Ne

Yeah, no fair starting at 3! Although I guess that *was* my first version that I bought and paid for myself... Hey if there are any really long-term LightWavers on here that still have the ability to run an older version, I still need screenshots for the LightWave History page (http://www.lightwiki.com/LightWave_History)

I first tried it in '92 or '93 on a friends Amiga. But I had an AtariST. He went on to work at Newtek in customer service, Chris Richardson. I'm sure somebody must remember him :)

Then when I got my first PC in '95 I got version 4. I even got a 3D game contract in '97 that more than paid for it and the trip to the Game Dev convention.

Your poll doesn't go back far enough.

For me it was version 1. I did have VideoScape and Modeler 3D, but that's not really Lightwave.

I first tried it in '92 or '93 on a friends Amiga. But I had an AtariST.Ahhhh... the Atari ST. That was the first system I owned. Those good ol' days wasting countless hours with Cad-3D, Cyber-Sculpt, Cyber-Control and Spectrum512. I think still have some of those floppies tucked away in the garage somewhere. Some months back I stumbled across some Atari discs containing Rez Render, Tom Huson's "Raytracing Construction Set", and an home-built program to spit out numbers for manual animation stands. I used that program to create fairings for Cyber Control and RT Construction Set.
Sure glad those days are long gone.8~

Well technically, the first time I may or may not have used Lightwave was back in 91. I took a computer graphic class at Art School. I never thought much about it but a few years ago I happened to look at my transcript and it said Amiga for the class and I thought hmmmm.....

LW 1 here. Why does the poll only start at 3?

Well, I didn't think it counted as Lightwave that far back! Which is why I included the Babbage option for any pre-3 users!

What's a "babbage"?

Babbage's Analytical Engine, a Victorian mechanical computer.

Often thought of as the forerunner of today's computers. That guy was a genius!
