there is software taht can convert bitmap images color scheme using color values pulled from arbitrary images. so you can make a mosaic oout of any set of pictures. so i doubt this was done by hand.

I have no doubt that it was done in such a way. I'm just wondering if it also did the batch processing because otherwise, each frame would still have to be converted and if somebody did a whole video that way, it still would have been tedious.
