Howdy! I'm doing a nuclear explosion and noticed that volumetric Hypervoxels don't receive global illumination. Anybody have tips on setting up realistic 360 degree lighting on a large mushroom cloud? Lots of individual lights? Something like that? Thanks!

Making a half-dome in Modeler and applying Luxigons would be the easiest way, adding the spinning light trick would be a better GI fake - but I get the impression that the pros only use a few lights for smoke, and use shading options in the HV to make up for it. Even in high-end stuff like effects done in Houdini at Digital Domain. They render a light pass that has maybe 4 lights in it, key light, fill, rim, etc. Really saves on render time.

Thanks, Toby! Yeah, I set up a few blue sky lights to fill in the other side, a couple backlights, and a ground colored bounce. Looks pretty sweet. Thanks!

Marvin I think the Document site has ended even more confusing then it was before if that is possible.

Now all the Document links say one thing and the actual zip file contents say another!

For example, the link "LightWave v9.2 Surfacing Manual - Print Resolution (46.6 MB's)" downloads a Zip file named "LightWave v9-Surfacing Manual - Print Resolution.zip" which contains a Pdf file named "LightWave v9-Surfacing Manual - Screen Resolution.pdf" which is actually the LightWave v9.2 Surfacing Manual - Print Resolution (46.6 MB's) Document!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is true for all the document links!!!

Please unconfuse this confusing website before more unconfused people become confused!!

Thanks,
MacGregg
