View Full Version : Just Picked up LW 9.0

I'm pretty stoked. It's an impulse buy at this point but the buzz around 9.2 and the fact that for the longest time I've wanted to get back into Lightwave sold me. I guess I better buy FPrime now too. They didn't have FPrime back in the day and the closest thing I've had to that is either Maya IPR or Modo's preview. Ha!

Just wanted to say howdy!

And, fPrime RULZ!

I just can't wait for it to get here. Does anyone have any experience animating in Maya and rendering in Lightwave? I have a project where I was thinking I might be able to try this. It'd be cool to break away from Mental Ray for a bit.

Welcome to Lightwave, you're getting in at a good time.

There are a lot of users here that use Maya in conjunction with Lightwave so I'm sure someone will be able to help you. These boards are a little slow on the weekends though. Be sure to sign up at Spinquad.com, you can post your question there as well.

Thanks guys... I'm signing up at Spinquad.com now... are there any other lightwave specific sites that I might need to know about? =)

Looking forward to getting into Lightwave. I have a feeling LW + Maya will be a decent combo.

Welcome back to LW!

Something to look for with your arrival is the help content file. Make sure and install this - different than the content files. This is a Windows standard F1 online manual complete with search function. A nice feature that I believe arrived with 9.0.

www.flay.com has always been a staple LW site. Great for news and links to plugins, scripts, jobs etc.

Other sites:

http://forums.cgsociety.org/ They have a lightwave specific forum but I seldom use it. I'm primarily here, and occasionally over at Spinquad. But I check the cgsociety forums for inspirational artwork and some industry news.

http://www.worley.com/ Makers of Fprime and other useful plug-ins for Lightwave.

I just picked up LW9 myself... got it a few days ago... besides spinquad.com you might want to head on over to the LWG3.0 forums:
They have some nice WIPs going on and some great tutorials as well.
