Any ideas for one that's free? I've tried having a google, but with limited success. Just looking for a simple globe-configuration continents-only mesh, preferably with no thickness, just the shell.

Thanks in advance!

if your not wanting any thickness to it why does it need to be a mesh - why not jsut a simple sphere with a clip map?

It's for a realtime thingy, and I'm trying to keep my level of alpha-channel z-sorting to a minimum.

You know I had just that, and I just searched my backup harddrives and I no longer have it :(
I think i got it from 3d cafe, but it's free model section is off line!

Wouldn't a bump/displacement map be better? Here's a couple of sites

Or are you after a sphere with the oceans deleted?

Excatly that. Think the old BBC1 globe, or the loading sphere for Dead Rising.

Sorry mate can't help with that! I can't think of any easy way to do it either apart from clip maps :(

Do you need it as actual geometry?
After all, a clip map would do (and you can even use it to bump-bevel the edges).

Cheers,

Bog,
I'll upload one I have at home after 4:00 pm E.S.T. today. I have one where the continents are on individual layers and no water. I use a sphere within for the water. It has an atmosphere-like texture now, though.
As I made it, you can have at it.
Oh, I have one with thickness and without. Let me know which is needed.
Hey, I have it here on my lappy! Let me see...
Does that fit the bill? (Pressing the upload button this time...)

Absolutely smashing-perfect-flawless, Robert! Thanks a million :D It's just for a little tech-demoey thing, but that's gonna make it look tons better. Cheers!
