My first real play around with 9.2+Fprime 3.

The room divider is dielectric as are the glass and bottle.
Nodes used for most materials.

There goes my enthsiasm for 9.2 radiosity! :devil:

Thanks. I left it rendering at 2100x1200 for about 5 hours.

The LW version really didn't want to get started-due to the dielectrics probably.

A little bit of gamma correction was all that I did in Photoshop.

Nice as usual Iain, but needs definitly more bounces ( means Kray ;) ), but, if you dont mind Iain, what do we have our favourite image editor for :

it's not the lighting setup i so much wonder about...usually people lit the rooms in a very similiar way.

it's the GI settings that id be intrested in...how many bounces, what intensity and such...

Ingo, i think LW (9,2) can now have up to 24 bounces, wouldnt it be enough?

It was 3 bounces at 120% in FPrime, 0.5 quality.
I think what Ingo means is that you can have way more bounces in Kray but still have lower render times.

Ingo, I don't mind-subtle but effective (levels?). I like a bit of contrast though.

Well Ingo meant that it looks a bit dirty in the corners of the room and on the couch, so more bounces means more diffuse light in this places. Otherwise PS's Shadows/Highlights does a decent job to get more light into the corners, maybe i have overdone it a bit.

Nice image, too! I've been pushing for LW9.2 + FPrime 3 as something of a Maxwell replacement here at Cityscape.

Funnily enough, I've all but given up on Maxwell now as a final render engine but if I'm struggling to get a scene to look good, I run a quick (well you know what I mean) test render on Maxwell then try to emulate that using FPrime.

So I'm using the world's slowest engine for previz!

Iain this is almost perfect, congrats !
The only thing i dislike are sun's shadows, i think they spread too much. I think that blurriest shadow's point should be max 4-6 cm.
I'd be also curious to know how long 9.2 GI takes for this pic.

Thanks Paolo. I'm not sure I'd ever worry about the length of my shadow points. How do you sleep at night? :eek:

I rendered the scene in 9.2 at animation res in about 45 minutes but the quality wasn't the same. I couldn't be bothered waiting for the full res version at higher quality.

eheh, dunno if i was clear - i was meaning the "spread" of arealight on the floor, imho it should be sharper.
