I have only one simple question. What is the best way to move object from Lw to Maya without any errors.
Now I'm making this operation in this way.
Step one :)
Export to obj from Lw
Step Two
Import obj to Maya and sometime there are some problems.
I know that problem is with faces but I don't know how preapere lw obj to import him without any errors to Maya :(
Greets and thanks for help

If you using Windows PC, download AccuTrans 3D from http://www.micromouse.ca/

Import LWO file into AccuTrans and export as MA file.

dude, in my experience... XSI to LW or even sometimes MODO to LW, you need to clean it up.... you would think the industry would have gotten it straight by now. OBJ should be OBJ in the other app - no mess ups !

The MA exporter in LW2Maya works great, but all I've been interested in is the raw geometry, no idea how it handles anything other than that.

Extent: it's Maya2LW. :D

corrected link:

Maya2LW has it's own OBJ export (which doesn't work in the M2LW pipeline) and a MA export (which does)

I've found that exported MA objects load with errors, but it's just a missing name in the root node or whatever it's called. Just rename the transform node with a name starting with "_UNKNOWN_REF_NODE_" and the error will go away. Either way it doesn't seem to effect the object at all.

What seems to be your problem exactly? My experience bringing items to maya from lightwave is to get rid of everything but the geometry, otherwise it makes a ton of items. Also you may need to assign a surface in Maya in order to see your model.

so basicly try stripping out all the surfaces, all the parts, groups, morphs, uv's etc. I only mention uv's because I dont do any texturing in Lightwave.

Yep. No morphs or parts or selection sets, etc. UV's are ok though.

Also, these steps make OBJ export (and import into maya) flawless for me.

It screws up point order, but that only matters if you're doing some sort of dynamics in LW and Maya and they need the exact same point order.

I had a similar problem knowing that I migrated OBJ's from Lightwave before to Maya with UV's in tact. I quickly made a free tutorial and hope it helps others that had same problem.

If you cant view the media, try downloading current flash player at Adobe. Hope this aids others in the future.
