You want to bench the quad Intel? Besides the Intel I have all of that.
I have just a dual dual Opteron, so that won't help, right?

I just bought the parts for a new machine, but it hasn't been assembled yet.

the parts are:
QX6700 quadcore
Asus WS-Pro motherboard
Leadtek Nvidia 8800 card
2gb ram

When I get Lightwave up and running on it, I shall post some numbers. Hopefully by the weekend.

Thanks guys,

First, download this file:

http://www.polymetric.net/bench.zip

Then I need is for you to run this test set up by StereoMike:

1. One instance rendering with 4 threads.
2. 4 instances of Lightwave rendering with 1 thread. Take the 4 times and give me the average.
3. 4 instances of Lightwave rendering with 4 threads. Take the 4 times and give me the average.

Make sure that the image size isn't modified (it's ready to go).

For 2 and 3, just switch between the apps and F9 quickly.

Also, I need to know your CPU and memory usuage.

I'll only be able to give you a benchmark on win32, unfortunately. Still want the data?

Does Win32 see all 4 processors?

Here ya go:

QX6700
4GB PC6400
WinXP64
LW9.2 64

1x4 threads: 45.8s
4x1 thread: 3m 1.5s (2m 59, 3m 0s, 3m 7s, 3m 0s)
4x4 threads: 3m 0.5s (2m 58s, 3m 2s, 3m 2s, 3m 0s)

Tell ya much? seems fairly even across the board to me.

P.S. oops, forgot to take CPU and Mem usage.

Memory & CPU usage:

1x4 Threads uses 99% CPU 240,244K of memory

the other 2 cases use 100% CPU and just over twice the memory.

That's perfect :D! I scored this:

Dual Core Intel 6600 2.4ghz.

1 - 1m 27s
2 - 5m 52s
3 - 5m 53s

My memory usage wasn't as much. But I suspect that has something to do with the cores.

As long as XP 32bit is of the pro variety, you can have up to two sockets in your system with any number of cores.

If you have XP Home (implies 32bit) you can only have one socket, but you can have as many cores as you like.

Windows is limited by socket (This is an artificial limitation by the license) Not by number of cores.
