View Full Version : TextureDisplasement Layer is bugging me

Hi guys,

The TextureDisplasement Layer is bugging the hell out of me right now and I was wondering if anyone could help me out with this problem I've run into.

On the color channel I have set up a procedural turbulance layer and displaced it with another procedural, then I've used another turbulance layer as an alpha. Now that's tha basic surface.
But then I wanted to use a imagelayer as an alpha, so that certain areas look different (red value layer and some similare procedurals on top of that as the base).
The problem I'm having is that when I turn on the texturedisplacement layer wich for the base, it comes through into the areas wich I have marked off with the alpha image map, If I'm guessing correctly then I'd say that the texture displacement layer is displacing every layer above it and not just the first one above it like I would want. Hence... it is probably displacing the alpha imagemap layer as well.
Anyone know how to solve this problem?

I'm fairly certain that an alpha-mode layer only masks the preceding layer in the list, not the summation of layers beneath it. This is how the documentation describes an alpha-mode layer, and that's been my experience. You'll need to duplicate your alpha layer above each layer you want to be effected. I don't know if V9 node-based textures allows a "global" alpha layer.

Textured displacement affects EVERYTHING above it. You might want to go with nodes if you need more precise control. :)

Yeah with a setup like that, you'd be waaay better off with nodes. Assuming you have 9. If you dont know how to use em, this is a great project to work on it

Now that's an old school sampler
