What is the best way to import a .jpeg image into modelar? Have tried importing then exporting from photoshop and illustrator in their various
extentions then import into modelar using EPSF loader. I have added all available plugins but to no avail.

To be able to use any image file as either a texture or background image in modeler you have to load it using the image editor (should be CTRL+F4 by default).

Just open the image editor and click Load. Once it's in the image list you can find it in the drop down lists in the surface editor and in the Options panels

The shortcut for image editor is F6, this will let you load quite a few different raster image(bitmapped) file formats, that can then be applied to the background or an object.
The epsf importer will load ai or eps files that are version 8 or earlier. The reason why the importer can not use the newer versions is because Adobe change the format to pdf.
If you use Photoshop to create an object for the epsf importer, the file must be a vector not raster and be exported using the paths to illustrator feature in photoshop.
