G'Day mate
this is my first try at the gem and caustics and jewelery
any ideas to improve
all comments welcomed

The gems and caustics look nice. And they're very cool designs. The biggest complaint I would make is that the gold looks very flat, almost plasticky, with no real shading or shadows or much to distinguish it. Also it would be nice to get some kind of sense of scale, by adding some recognizable props or DOF or something. Are you using 9.2 and the dialectric material for the gems?

Gold could use some more luster/depth, IMHO.

Yeah, and HDR or some sort of image BG would make this much much nicer. Even some texture mapped luminous polys (for more of a studio shot feel) would prolly make this much better. A very subtle fresnel gradient on the surfaces couldnt hurt either, IMO.

EDIT:

Also, I dont understand how the engraving seems to be "glowing" nonphysically, ala LOTR... did you mean for it to do that?

yes i made the ring to depict the LOTR style
and please explain what you mean by this "did you mean for it to do that?"
