Honestly, I haven't seen the need in using noise reduction in 9.2 - as the AS will get rid off all of it with the right settings.

I always viewed Noise reduction as a necessary evil - not needed (IMHO) with 9.2

The noise reduction thing in Lightwave isn't very good anyway. You're much better off with NeatImage or something such.

Shouldn't you be linking that node to the Diffuse Shading input instead?

If you want a classic "occlusion" effect or
a "softshadow" effect (with a Light world position as target)
you should connect the scalar output in the Diffuse input
like in the above nodetree,
except if you provide and mix it with a diffuse shader node.

SG_AmbOccNode doesn't include a diffuse model
such as Lambert, the color output is an illuminated color
cast by occlusion (sampled) from neighboring object surfaces,
you should add or mix this color as a foreground color
with the current color of your surface to get
a kind of "color bleeding" effect.

Denis.
