View Full Version : Planar mapping onto a subpatch mesh

How does Lightwave v.9 handle the planar mapping of an image onto a subpatch object? When I autosize the image onto the polygons LW9 seems to set the size according to the normal polygon mesh, not the subpatch mesh, even though the object is a subpatch when I apply the texture. I created the image proportioned to the *subpatch* mesh polygons by grabbing a screenshot in an orthogonal view along the axis I'm using for the planar projection. Dan Ablan recommeneded this technique for generating detail maps (eyes and lips) to apply to a head. However, he didn't seem to encounter this sizing problem.

Thanks for any suggestions.

All Autosize functions in Image map, Modeler Backdrop image and
even Bounding Box Modeler command, work in un-frozen mode,
so you get always the object cage size instead of subpatched
object size.
Copy your subpatched mesh in a new object in Modeler,
freeze it, autosize your image map and copy the surface
to your original un-frozen subpatched object.

Great. That worked beautifully. Thank you.
