View Full Version : UV Edit Pro - should I even bother?

Back when v8.0 came around we got a copy of UV Edit Pro. I want to know if it is even worth bothering to play with the the plg UV tools out there?

The question should read: I have UV Edit Pro (thanks to v8.0) and wanted to know if I should even bother opening it since plg seems to be a better choice. Would I be missing something (besides the frustration of trying to figure out how to use UV Edit).

I understood your question ... IMHO I think you are safe with plg alone
I have never used it but I can safely tell you its not as fun to use as plg
But no hurt in experimenting if you have the time to spare

I opened UV Edit back when I 1st got it and tried messing with UV maps. I didn't get to far. When PLG came around I grabbed it. Lets just say I did in 5 minutes what I was trying to do in UV Edit for 2 hours. :)

Just wanted to make sure there wasn't some other functionality in UV Edit that I am missing.

Your question was understood.

Fluidity, efficiency and fun is what you would be missing were you to open uvedit.

We got it. The answer was based on the Fun part. ;)O Plg JUST WORKS.

Plg is just super cool. Man that guy just did the biggest favor to lw community right when we were complaining about the uv tools in lw.
BTW I just (10 minutes ago) tried blender 2.43 and it does decent unwrapping. It lets you define seams etc. If you have any problems with plg you can try blender. They have a macosx version and it natively imports/exports lwos. Very weird workflow though :(

edit: this wasn't supposed to sound like a commercial :)

Does anyone have a link to a simpl tutorial on how to use that plugin. I got it a while ago and never could seem to figure it out.

Here are some notes I made from the Newtek forum it works perfect for me the attached pic was done by i think moc on the newtek forums (I hope I don't offend by posting here). Anyways it is the best uv tool I have used for LW saves me time and alows me to be artsy in PS and less techy n LW

check the first link the gif tutorial by moc, I can assist you further as necessary :) In fact I am using it right now ... seamlessly in 9.2 for a full character

Awesome, thanks a lot. I usually do hardbody stuff so the basic LW UV tools have been pretty adequate for me so far but I am always looking for newer and better ways of doing things.

Those links are not working for me under IE6. What is PLG? i thought it was a typo :) I also have UV Edit Pro and have yet to use it.

I imagine PLG is an uvmapping plugin, but never heard from it before. I'll look it up in flay.com

once you use PLG you probably won't go back to UV Edit Pro
