I am trying to find a quick way to have a signature draw itself. I have done something similar to this using block letters, but nothing as detailed as this that crosses over itself so many times. I would appreciate any input

Try Marker Pen http://perso.orange.fr/dpont/plugins/Textures.htm

In After Effects theres this Ride On feature. That animates anything you draw, as you draw it. Pretty cool, but it largely depends on your wrist to make a good enough signature.

I am really gratefull for the link you gave me (Marker Pen) , it looks like the exact thing I need. Not to sound stupid, how do I load it to lightwave and to what location do I use it. There are very few details or instructions

I know it's not LightWave related, but here a very good After Effects tutorial to animate a signature:

The perfect reason for getting a VT. :D
Comes with Aura, which makes this a snap AND will make the perfect LW file, and THEN let you put all those anims into a coherent story.

Just what the Dr. ordered. :vticon:

Only way I've ever done this is to scribble my signature on a Wacom, then load it into After Effects and track Sub masks along it over time.

Backwards. If you see what I mean. Erase it over time in one comp, then pre-compose, then time reverse.

Took about 10 minutes, and I have a loooong signature (see below ;) )

Isn't there a way of using modeler's draw command then using some sort of follower plugin in layout using a null and hypervoxels to get the effect?

Or am I being too simplistic, never tried anything like that before :o

There are probably a few ways to do it right in Lightwave. I can think of a couple of places to start off the top of my head but I am sure somebody has already figured it out. Have you tried a search? Also try www.spinquad.com

I don't think you are too far off. Draw a spline using the sketch tool, then animate it with HV's. Take a look at Splinegod's vine tutorial. http://www.3dtrainingonline.com/support/ It's under Misc stuff #10 If you have wacom tablet, all the better.

I remember a tutorial on just what you are asking for in one of my old NewTechniques magazines showing just how to do this.

It used a sparkler and left a smoke trail. If I still had that issue I could help. Any one remember this issue or the NewTechniques magazine for that matter??.
