View Full Version : I think Newtek should sell ad space on these boards

It would make them some bux.

But would you put up with the ads?

02-02-2007, 10:37 AM
NO! What a lame idea!

02-02-2007, 11:12 AM
OMG... plese not! there are not many ad free zones anymore...

02-02-2007, 11:14 AM
I agree, it's the one 3D site I go to without annoying ads distracting my attention by bleeping and flashing away!

02-02-2007, 11:18 AM
well.. ads for 3d software or tools wont bother me much. porn ads will though... anything for more revenue for NT wouldnt hurt, but then again this will probably never happen because this is an NT forum to sell lightwave not help other people sell their software..

ditto- i'd be surprised they would do anything like that unless it was to promote nt promos or news items that need to be more obvious than they already are.

Wouldn't bother me, no ads do. I have the ad blocker add-on for firefox.

Ads for third-party devvers, I could tolerate. After all, that's where our present scientists working on LW came from.

A BobsFx ad would be great to show what else is available for the SE and VT crowds, too.

02-02-2007, 01:28 PM
There could be lots of ads for hardware companies for example.

What if the money from an ad you hate paid for the programmer who got rid of a LW bug you REALLY hated :)

Advertisement is a disease that's corrupting our minds and society.
Whoever has the most "bux" will get the most clients, regardless of product quality.
If advertisement wouldn't exist, LW wouldn't be such an underdog, and Newtek would have a lot more "bux". Autodesk even deems it necessary to place 3DS Max advertisement on CGCociety/CGNews pages that have reviews of LW related software.

Propagating this fallacy, even if you get a few "bux", is idiologically wrong.

Now, back to the kittens! :)

02-02-2007, 02:31 PM
Actually the idea for advertising for LW related plugins or assitance tools like vue, zbrush is not a bad idea. Think about it !!
The only drawback is it may appear NT is not doing to well financially ... but that is superficial to think that.

02-02-2007, 05:27 PM
3rd party ads maybe okay but imagine autodesk advertising maya and max here!....that would not be great...then just think about modo!...if they advertised here!...that would NOT be a great move!

rather than ''ads'' maybe affiliates....like kurv studios, stillwater, spinquad, flay, dan's books, worley labs, fibre factory, ....thinking about it a affiliate PAGE [not forum] on newtek's main lightwave area wuld be a great idea to show just what learning tools and plugins are available

02-02-2007, 05:33 PM
makes sense enough that :yoda:

02-02-2007, 10:14 PM
If they want to make some more bucks, they should sell some Lightwave cookies. I'd buy some.

02-03-2007, 03:36 AM
Or T-Shorts, Hats, .... Jeans :) , LLaptop coverers, or Llaptop Bags, Desktop Monitor dust holders, gloves, jackets, belts.... I really would like an LW belt,... Sweat holder thing for the forehead when playing tennis in the middle of the summer day, ankle supporters, boots... I can go on for days.

Of course not all of them, but those are just ideas what they could do with a fancy LW image slapped on it somewhere, and a special site up there near "About Us" or "Products" that them items appear, so you can click and order them send to you wroldwide.

But then no adds about them should be nowhere in sight. We would talk about it, so everyone would know. Cause man, itll be seen as such an extreemly desperate move. I dont know things like this come to mind:

"They are in a such a bad financial sitation that they now sell T-shirts just so as to find some money for food"

02-03-2007, 03:51 AM
Yea look at all the blank white space on this page - it could all be bright flashing red ads!

02-03-2007, 09:56 AM
I don't think it would be a desperate move to sell t-shirts.

Just do it on cafepress so it doesn't consume any time or resources.

They could even do retro ones from the early newtek days.

I think it would be cheesy to do the 'slap this design on everything that exists' cafepress option though.

They also have black/dark t-shirts now.

As some others said... ads for LightWave related stuff and hardware dedicated to video and 3D would be ok. Boxx, Alienware etc... those that can provide systems based around VT and LightWave. I'm a geek, so some nice cool hardware porn would be great... you know... "Wow.. if only I could afford that sytem to run LW on..." kind of feeling.. :)

Did I say I'm a geek... ?

02-03-2007, 10:17 AM
alas yes you did ... now you are stained .... forever  :D

02-03-2007, 11:07 AM
I really would like an LW belt,...

Me too! I would love a lightwave belt buckle made of the LW squiggly logo extruded.

Ads here - Please not!

Firefox + Adblock = No ads on most sites :-)

Firefox + Adblock = No ads on most sites :-)

So does this block reasonable ads as well?

I think the google adsense are unubtrusive and even sometimes useful.

Also a lot of small sites generate some revenue in a resonoble way from this.

In sense the adsense allows the user to almost ''pay' the site with a micropayment if they see something useful.

I am in total agreement with the BS ads, but I am curious about people that block everything even ones that are reasonable and I wonder if that is actually fair to the sites that are not providing BS ads.

How about something you plug into a CD bay on your computer with dials and cool lights on it that tells you about whats rendering in the background.

A digital counter readout showing the frames rendered and some other whirlygigs.

It would make my computer faster for sure.

Hmmmmmm..... Now Im pretty hot about a belt thats something like that. Its a simple explanatary picture. The logo of Iron is in in the middle where it holds the belt holes. You oughta have a name about that whitch I dont know.
Cowboy bull riders have them decorative like that. And LW's logo is pretty something. With spikes an all, it would look sharp on a belt, specially if its from iron, it may even be a weapon :) , that a proud owner would hold.
....Anyone else interested??

To put ads up on these pages would be a seriously BAD IDEA.

The forums are basically an extension of the (inadequate) manual and really as important, often more so, when it comes to solving problems.

Without the help here, Lightwave would probably not be viable. Also to someone new to Lightwave, searching here for the first time, this would create a very bad impression.

It would really look unprofessional and be a big turnoff, give the software a bad name.

There should be a seperate T-shirt page as there is always much interest in this area.
