hi ppl..

I am a newbie to the world of 3D :lwicon: , inspired truely by the masterpieces you ppl developed :thumbsup: . i am here to ask you ppl for advice. I've been goin thru few tutorials bout modeling, texturing and rendering but gained lil knowledge from them. plz guide me the sources available and how to gain the needed skill need to create masterpieces like u ppl :I_Love_Ne

Gee thanks for the quick reply...jus wat i was hoping for. :) i have another query, i wanna know the which plugins you recommend me or you feel are essential.

No plugin is essential.

However Rope Editor is good for cables and the like.

Virtuallly everything else you can just do with plain hard slog.

As Bog says, there are none. You find what you would LIKE to have by using what you ALREADY have.

Look at the Flay link. Plugin heaven... At least it could be said the road to such a heaven. I have over 2k plugins. I use about 75 of'em. ;) The problem becomes, if you don't follow the first line of my above advice, one of needing to remember what all you've downloaded and installed.

Hold off on the plugins. Learn as much as you can about what you have. You have more than enough in front of you as it is. :thumbsup:

ok...i heard bout plugins regarding UV mapping ( UV mapper )and stuff so was curious.

I am confident with my modellings tech but not sure whre to go or wat to do nxt to give my lifeless modelled obj a touch of reality . i would really appreciate if i am educated the next sequence of steps that follows after modellin phase :newhere: and the do how for it :help:

Without question, the plg plugs are a great addition. I may have to step back and say they are essential. ;)

Add a bunch of objects. Press f9. Adjust lights. Adjust textures. Press f9.
Go outside into the world, observe some things. Take some pictures.
Come back in and model those things. Put them into layout with surfaces defined. Press f9. Adjust textures. Adjust lights. Press f9. Let others look at it to critic your work.
Repeat forever.

It helps if you ask specific questions as general answers won't get you as far as you would like to go.

I'm stepping out for a bit. When I get back, I'll share some tips on how to use those plg uv plugs. I love them.

there's plenty of tutorials on newtek's own lightwave page.

Do some of them, then start to model everything on your desk.
Get to know the basic modeling tools you need everyday.
Try really on boring stuff like pencils etc, you don't have that much fear of messing it up on boring stuff.
If you try to model your girlfriend during your first journey into LW3D you will either loose you girlfriend if you model her or be very slow and loose the fun on it cause of the high aim and pressure yourself and the gilrfriend put on you.
After you know the tools start with something that interests you (cow, car girlfriend) and gain knowledge according to your project. Don't think you must know and master everything of LW to do cool stuff. Nobody does.
Expand your capabilities and take advice and criticism serious. In fact modeling your girlfriend that early would lead into a major crisis either way, cause humans are pretty difficult. But sooner or later and with much patience and perseverance you will nail every model.
Of course you will need to get into layout as well. But that's rather knowing "what button does what" compared to the rather artistic skills you need to create nice models
(yeah I know, setting up a beautiful scene is more than clicking buttons, but I don't even know where to start when talking about "layout skills"? Must know how photos work? Must have an eye for beauty and colors?)

The vid that will show up talks about the two of the plugs in the uv plg pack.
I'm using a copy of my original object because it's helpful for splitting it up in the surface editor. The beauty of the Make UV Edit plug is that you can save the cut lines and apply that to your original object. Quite Easy and efficient.

I feel for you. But the best advice is practice as much as you can.

TUTORIALS

Watch as many video tutorials as you can. Devote yourself to learning one new skill every two days and practice it. There are good tuts on Newtek site and other places.

TIME
