I am looking for a pci or agp card for a 4x agp G4 that has OPen GL 2 support. I want to run LW 9 with no problem.

Any choices (recommendations)?

I have a dual 800 G4 system with Nvidia GeForce2 TwinView card. i just want a better opengl card. I think this card supports Open GL 1.1 - unless there is a new driver that I don't have.

Thanks

Dan

Without having any hard knowledge, I do believe OGL2 for the time being is only a dream come true.

1: I havenīt yet heard of a graphics on the Mac that supports it.

2: From discussions Iīve stumbled upon it appears that there wonīt be an OGL2 implementation until the OS supports it. Which it seemingly doesnīt.

Leopard? Who knows... (at least I donīt).

As I understand it OGL2 is supported though perhaps not all features.

I just checked my setup, Iīve got all the latest and greatest SW-wise.

On both my Macīs it says very clearly Open GL 1.4.7.

I guess itīs possible that some specific features of OGL2 still is supported. Iīm by no means an expert.

Do you have any more specific info about that? Where did you pick up this info?

Nope I'm afraid not, I seem to remember asking a similar question some time ago and was told OGL2 is supported. I can't remember any more than that. I'm sure Chilton or someone will be along with info though!

don't know if you already checked this:

http://www.realtech-vr.com/glview/download.html

that'a an opengl extension viewer for checking all specific opengl functions supported by your graphics card. at least it's useful to know what is already supported on the specific mac/ graphics card combination - and maybe we blame LW less for not supporting certain OGL features, LOL...

(EDIT: i don't have any more any G4 powermac so i can't help you with a good tip, unfortunately)

I just used that openGL viewer on my macbookpro.
It shows 100% supported openGL 2.0 and 33% for openGL 2.1.
My older 17" powerbook shows 1.5 at 100%, 2.0 at 80% and 2.1 at 33%.
YMMV

try the ATI 9800 pro. openGL 2.0 support and SUPPOSEDLY runs on a g4. I'm not 100% alot of stores have g5 only so look for reviews and stuff.

I will try that utility.

I found the Open GL specs in Layout under the Open GL info.

I am going to sell this g4 and will buy a used g5 tonight. It is a 1.6 Ghz single proc and will suit me fine for hopefully a year or so. By then I will get a new MacPro.
