Hey guys, I thought I would share this with the community.

Beacon (DivX 6.3) - 11mb (http://www.luma.co.za/more/Beacon_TVC.avi)

What do an easter bunny, a golden egg, a jungle and a mysterious cave have in common? Well, to be honest, nothing, that's why a team of two animators were put on the job, to bring it all together in a magical 30 second animated commercial.

We were tasked with creating an adventure for the Beacon Bunny, all set within an "Incredibles" styled jungle and a cave that Indiana Jones would feel right at home exploring.

A lot had to happen within the 30 second timeframe, in total we travel through 6 sets, 29 seconds of dialogue had to be delivered by our character, and countless branding mechanisms had to be executed. Quite a tall order.

Because the bunny is an existing brand mascot, we did not have a lot of latitude in developing the 3D version of him. A lot of time was spent creating the character, as until now he existed only as a 2D illustration, and from one angle only, so the process had to be approved at each and every stage of development, with changes being made as we went along. Cosmetic changes were made to the bunny in the 2D to 3D process, but they had to be rolled back until a future date when they will be considered.

The sets were created before the character was approved. We actually got each set to a level we could consider final way ahead of schedule, allowing us more time for the character approval process, but also allowing us to polish our scenes a little more than we normally have the opportunity to.

In the end, 2.5 months were spent on the job, with two animators taking on the the workload, to produce a commercial that both the ad agency and the client were extremely pleased with ... so pleased, that a sequel is being developed, watch this space.

This was a 100% Lightwave project, the team included the talents of Brendon Goosen and Nigel Schutte, with music and SFX done by Paul Schaefer.

It'd be nice, but I don't have the codec's, or knowledge of location to acquire them, but it'd be cool to watch as QT. DivX's never work for me.

It's nice to see projects like this still being done 100% in Lightwave. Very nice work!

Thanks LAV. We definitely pushed the backgrounds once we realized we were limited by the client with regard to the character. The backgrounds kind of became the star of the commercial.

robbiesmith79 - The Divx codec can be downloaded at http://www.divx.com. Sorry, at this time I dont have a quicktime version.

nj3Design - Thanks. Yeah, it is great, I work in a 2 software studio, and character stuff is usually taken care of in another package and exported to LW for rendering. I'm glad this one was different.

Mrjack - Thanks. I wish we could have done more with the character, but as I mentioned, the client was very strict about what we could do with it, it is their brand after all.

thanks guys.

Oh man! I was just in South Africa. If I had only known! Oh well, I already have that portable DVD player. It's a life saver on those family vacation trips.

Well done sir!
