There are three video pages that I know of on Lightwave here on this site.

One if you click on training, at the LW9 product page:

http://www.newtek.com/lightwave/tutorials/videos/index.php

Another if you follow the link to the free trial:

http://www.newtek.com/lightwave/lwtrial/tutorials.php

And yet another if you choose Product Information and Lightwave Videos:

http://www.newtek.com/lightwave/videos.php

All different pages.

And finally on that last page there is a little link to video archive:

http://www.newtek.com/lightwave/videos.php

Some of these places have duplicate videos and depending on where you go you might miss one.

Some of these videos that pertain to LW8 and below are still relevent - some are not.

I can understand the need to give the site a nice clean look and that you are starting to standardizing things for LW 9 but, I don't think it should come at the expense of us having easy access to the information. I think it would be easier on nubies and us guys here who like to help out every now and then to know there is one page for all training needs with all videos and tutorials categorized by subject so we can quickly find the video or tutorial we saw that one time and help a guy out or, **** watch one we missed or watch something again - as I often do.

Wouldn't take very long just to make one page that all those extranious links point to and from there link to what it is you need.

Please? :)

Thats great, thanks. I've run into that page before,

Is this a sticky someplace?

If not, maybe we can do that which would be even better.

It is listed on Newtek's link page (http://newtek.com/community/links.php), but the description should be changed. It sounds like all the tutorials are his, when in fact he is running a web bot finding all tutorials for lightwave on the internet both free and commercial.
It is an excellent resource that every Lightwave user should know about.

I can't believe there are people who still don't know about that site, it's been going for at least 6 years and gets mentioned every time the words 'tutorial' and 'lightwave' appear in the same thread anywhere on the internet, or is the third hit if you type those two words into google.

Well I was talking about the Newtek site and the tutorials that are produced here by this company or by people explicitly by this company.

The specifc point I was making is that this is afterall the Newtek site. I would like to see it orginized in some kind of logical fashion regarding the training information available here.

I don't think that is too much to ask. Right now it is in a dissarray.

i surpose newtek likes to show lw9 videos mainly and then have a history section for older versions...

Yes, I know. But there are two locations for the LW 9 stuff and some of them are not in the other. Plus many of the things from older versions are still valid now.

Just click around on those links I gave and you'll see what I mean.

There should be just one training page for LW I think. If they want to feature LW9 fine, have the rest of the videos available as a link there as well.

you could look on Newtek's FTP server, there you'll find ALL of the videos pretty much under 2 folders, if you look at the bottom left of the screen when you highlight one you'll see what I mean...

therefore 2 or 3 or those pages, where you say you are getting multiple videos are probably actually referring to a single file on a file on their FTP server, it's just referenced multiple times on various pages.

click here to find them all...

ftp://ftp.newtek.com/pub/LightWave/LW9/
ftp://ftp.newtek.com/pub/LightWave/Tutorials/Vidz/
ftp://ftp.newtek.com/multimedia/eyeon/

there's also:
ftp://ftp.newtek.com/multimedia/movies/

and some other cool stuff on there for teaching purposes.

some folders you cna't access but this is for obvious good reasons in that they aren't meant for you.
but the files you are allowed to access due to something called anonymous login if anyone's into FTP servers and authentification are the lightwave tutorials and other files in there that are lightwave learning related.

The videos you've listed are separated for one simple reason, they don't all serve the same purpose.

The videos at http://www.newtek.com/lightwave/tutorials/videos/index.php are intended for training purposes for all LightWave users.

The videos at http://www.newtek.com/lightwave/lwtrial/tutorials.php are intended specifically for those that have never used LightWave before, trial edition users. We would not want to dump them into a list of general tutorials, leaving them to find the training materials they need on their own.

The videos at http://www.newtek.com/lightwave/videos.php are not intended for training purposes. They are intended to demonstrate the advantages of the new features.

The videos at http://www.newtek.com/lightwave/videos_archive.php are not intended for training purposes either. They were intended to demonstrate the advantage of the new features for LightWave [8], and as such they are kept separate from videos demonstrating new features for LightWave v9 to avoid confusion to those seeking information about the newest version of the product.

Regardless, I have brought this thread to the attention of the person in charge of our content, including tutorials, and our 3D webmaster for consideration.

Thank you Kurtis.

What made me say this was because I follwed a link on a thread and was surprised to see that there were videos that were different, yet the page was similar to the one I had been visiting. I simply was unaware that there was another page. There was valuable information on that "new" page that I needed. It was not until I spent some time tooling around the site, that I found the page again.

My point is a simple one. I should not have to do extra work just to find information on an information website. I should not then have to go to another website that categorizes this website along with all other websites just to findout what is actually on this website.

I completely understand the categorization of information.

The way I think it should be done - and you see this on most sites these days - is you point people to a specific page. On that page are readilly available and visable easly to understand links to other simlilar information.

Example:

Person wants to get an idea what's cooking new in LW9. He follows a flashing banner on the front page of the website "What's New in LW9 ? Watch Videos!"

That takes him to a video page with the videos that the markting team wants him to watch. But this page is simply a sublink to the master video and training page and the other links are all there so he can see that there are ohter types of videos he can see too if he so chooses.

So any marketing angle can link to any page in this subdirectory.

So that the rest of us only need to know one link, one page that takes us to all of the training and videos and which are all indexed.

Seems like a reasonable request to me.
