View Full Version : Maestro Arm troubles

01-16-2007, 02:57 PM

Ive rigged a character using Maestro and set it up in Layout everything looked fine until I noticed a glitch round the armpit area. Ive tried moving the points around in this area but its still behaving oddly. The arm bones dont seem to be affecting the lower portion of the bicep that conects to the pit area. Ive also tried applying a rough weight map but still no joy... It appears as though some of the points are being affected by the bone but a couple in the first section of the bicep arent being affected. Any help will be greatfully received..

Are you using weight maps? If you are I would check the one for the bones in that area to see if that spot is supposed to be affected by any of the bones. If you are not using them I would suggest that you do :D They give you a lot more control.

Also.. because your shoulder joint is right up at the top of the arm, when the arm is down by his side, it will be inside the torso.
You need to make it so that the joint is postioned correctly or it'll look odd when you pose it.

Seems like the circled bone is holding the mesh in place when the arm comes down. This could be because that bicep as does not have enough influence on the mesh there or the rib bone has too much influence. OK that may be staing the obvious but maybe you can try and simplify. Start eliminating things see if you can zero in on it.

Thanks for all of your help and suggestions.

Ive sorted the problem by using a subd version of the model, then resized the rib cage bones making them smaller and moved them towards the core of the body. This has improved the overall bend of the arm, it still needs a little tweaking but ultimatly its sorted.

Thanks again for all of your help guys

p.s Maestro is a great plugin and a life saver for quick character animation
